Case Study. Autism Ontario.

Magazine Redesign and Branding

Creative & Design / Brand Strategy

Client Goal.

Autism Ontario is a non-profit organization that supports individuals with autism and their families across the province. Autism Ontario publishes a quarterly magazine, Autism Matters, in print and digital formats as a resource for news and support. The magazine needed a stronger visual identity, clearer hierarchy and a flexible design system that could accommodate everything from long-form features to community stories and informational content.

Strategy.

The 9dot Digital design team anchored the magazine around a more modern editorial approach, using typography, photography, colour, and layout to create a stronger reading experience while maintaining a clear connection to Autism Ontario.

Rather than relying on a single repeated page structure, the new design introduced flexible layouts that could adapt to different types of content. Feature stories received more visual impact through larger photography, expressive headlines, and purposeful white space, while recurring graphic elements helped create consistency from one section to the next.

The magazine also became an important expression of Autism Ontario’s evolving visual brand. As part of the work, 9dot formalized brand and colour guidelines for a new PowerPoint template that would carry a similar visual representation to the Autism Matters magazine.

Result.

The redesign gives Autism Matters a distinctive editorial identity that feels more polished, engaging and recognizably Autism Ontario. The new system gives the publication room to evolve from issue to issue while maintaining a consistent look and feel.

Now, Autism Ontario has a stronger visual foundation that carries into other brand and marketing materials, extending the refreshed identity beyond the magazine.
